DeKalb Man Pleads Not Guilty To Causing Crash that Killed Sheriff’s Deputy

On Monday, Nathan P. Sweeney, a resident of DeKalb, entered a plea of not guilty to charges asserting that he operated a vehicle under the influence of drugs, leading to a fatal collision on March 28 in Waterman. The crash resulted in the tragic death of DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina Musil, who was on duty at the time.

Voting Update: Cortland Township, City of Genoa, and DeKalb Township

Cortland Township and the City of Genoa have wrapped up their mayoral election. Mark Pietrowski, Jr. emerges victorious in Cortland with 53.93% of the vote with all precincts reporting. Over in Genoa, Jonathon Brust is looking to take the mayoral helm by a resounding 58% of the vote.

NIU Spring Showcase kicks off at 10am with a sale and games at Chessick Practice Center and gates to open at NIU Huskie Stadium at 11am. Event details: snacks, face painting, food, beer, and autographs with Huskie Football at 2pm.

Board and Video Gamers of DeKalb/Sycamore Area is hosting their monthly open board game night at The Church in DeKalb meeting space at 1600 East Lincoln Highway at 6:30-9:30pm. Can’t make this one… keep informed on their FB Group

May 2nd

Give DeKalb County is an all day virtual event to raise money for our participating non-profits that makes DeKalb County Great! Please join us and donate to your favorite nonprofit from midnight to midnight at Give DeKalb County’s Webiste.

May 5th

Cinco De Mayo Parade and Festival in downtown DeKalb is doing a low-rider car show, to-go drinks, foo trucks, and live music from 12-6pm

May 11th

Lady’s Night at Ivy Oaks Floral is haing an bouquet making event in Somonauk from 5-7pm. Create a bouquet, and/or shop cosmetics and plants.
